Columbia summer program

Web.3 is upon us and it is a start of a new revolution where my generation will grow up and be part of something important to have knowledge about. The new concepts such as decentralization, blockchain technologies, token-based economics and many more are what will thrive in the coming future. Being able to understand the basics and ins and outs of these emerging technologies is what will create me as a person, a future problem solver and leader.

Machine learning and Artificial intelligence is the future of the world and we all know it, as for the current Web.3 revolution. From the idea of knowing where the future is going, I started to research specific topics and ideas surrounding Machine learning and Artificial intelligence but I never clicked with all these complicated topics because I did not truly understand it. I decided to try and learn from a different approach via taking a columbia course on Understanding Blockchain, AI and Machine learning. My main goal in this program was to be able to fully understand the basics of the blockchain, AI and Machine learning.

Throughout the five day program we learnt through answering questions per session for example the first session of the first day we answered the question of “What is AI?” followed by in the next session which was “What problems can Ai best solve?” With these questions being on the back of your head during class the question would be broken down to understand it through a different perspective, never answering the question in the first five minutes but going into extreme detail. For example on the first session of the first day we understood the whole scoop by going through the four revolutions, the tree Webs,  what is the difference of AI and ML?,  Artificial general intelligence, Artificial Narrow intelligence, Three Ps and much more to then help us to solve the question of “What is AI?” This made the dynamic of the lessons more engaging and entertaining as there is so much eye-opening information for the future.

Overall I enjoyed the course very much as you could have previous knowledge or not know anything about any of the topics and be able to understand and be challenged by the course. Something that I believe that worked well with me was all the metaphors and analogies used throughout the course as it would really help me understand the idea the teacher would be trying to tell the class. This course has taught me so much and really opened my eyes to the future, this made me want to pursue and keep developing my knowledge so that in the future I can be part of a grander change.

I have had this outstanding question since class and I have asked it to the teacher but it is a really complex theory that only time will be able to answer my question. My question is “Is cryptocurrency all just a ponzi scheme?” The reason for this question is after understanding how the blockchain works I found it odd that you need all this computing power to answer mathematical questions to unlock bitcoin. This puzzled me as I thought maybe the money is all just a distraction and there might be a higher power to all this.

At the end I received a award for completing the summer course as well as some personal feedback from my professor.
